INVISIBLE ALIGNERS

TruSmile Clear Aligners
Crooked and improperly spaced teeth not only undermine the attractiveness of your smile, but can have a negative impact on your oral health as well. Consider that misaligned teeth increase your risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease, and TMJ disorders. In years past, the classic way to overcome poor teeth alignment was to use braces with metal brackets and wires, thus leading to an inconvenient and uncomfortable experience.

What to do if your temporary crown falls out

A temporary crown protects a prepared tooth while the permanent restoration is made. It also preserves your bite and appearance. Cement holds it in place, although chewing, grinding, sticky food or a weakened tooth can loosen it sooner than expected.

If your temporary crown falls out before your final placement, treat it as a prompt dental appointment rather than an emergency unless you have warning signs. The exposed tooth may be sensitive to air, heat and sugar, while neighbouring teeth can begin to move if the gap is left unprotected.

A missing provisional crown is rarely a reason for panic. It does mean you should avoid chewing on that side and contact the dentist who placed it as soon as practical. Acting quickly gives the team the best chance to re-cement a sound crown or replace a damaged one.

This guide explains what to do immediately, what to bring and when another clinic may need to help. The advice applies to Australian patients at home or overseas, but your treating dentist’s instructions take priority if they gave you different aftercare directions.

What you notice What it may indicate Sensible next step
Crown has come out and the tooth looks intact, with no pain or swelling Temporary cement may have released Save the crown and arrange dental advice the same day or next business day
Crown is loose, cracked or only partly attached The restoration or tooth may be damaged Do not pull or force it; call the treating dentist promptly
Sharp pain, sensitivity or a changed bite Exposed dentine, a crack or pressure on the tooth Avoid chewing and obtain prompt dental assessment
Facial swelling, fever, pus, heavy bleeding, or difficulty breathing or swallowing Possible infection or significant trauma Seek urgent dental care; call 000 for severe or life-threatening symptoms

First steps before contacting a dentist

First, move away from hard or sticky food and rinse your mouth gently with warm water. If the crown is lying nearby, place it somewhere safe before it is swallowed. If food is lodged around the tooth, a gentle rinse or floss may remove it; do not dig into the gum.

Handle the crown by the edges rather than rubbing its inner surface. Rinse loose debris away with water and put it in a clean container. Covering the tooth with pressure from a cotton pad can increase pain, so leave it alone unless your dentist has given you specific instructions.

Call the placing practice and explain when the crown came out, whether the tooth is sensitive and whether any swelling or pain developed. Ask whether they can re-cement it that day or want you to bring photos and the recovered crown in.

Warning signs that need urgent attention

A whole temporary crown that comes out with little or no pain is usually not a medical emergency. Arrange contact within the same day or next business day, though, because the tooth needs protection and the final crown’s fit depends on a stable underlying shape.

Severe or worsening pain, facial swelling, pus, fever, significant bleeding, or difficulty swallowing or breathing needs urgent assessment. An Australian patient with breathing trouble or uncontrolled bleeding should call 000; overseas, use the local emergency number and urgent dental service.

If the lost piece was attached to a dental implant rather than a natural tooth, contact the clinic even without pain. Do not probe or clean around the implant with a brush or toothpick, as the soft tissue and internal connection can be easily injured.

Keeping the crown and tooth safe

Clean the recovered crown gently and store it in a sealed container with milk or sterile saline if it cannot be replaced immediately. Do not use hot water, household bleach or a solvent. If old cement covers it, leave the residue for the dentist to assess rather than scraping aggressively.

Brush the surrounding teeth gently and keep the area clean with a soft toothbrush or warm salt-water rinse. Avoid very hot, cold, sweet or acidic food, and chew only on the opposite side. Persistent sensitivity may improve when the crown or another temporary covering is placed.

Do not attach the crown with superglue, denture adhesive, toothpaste or an online dental cement. These materials can damage the crown, irritate the tooth and make professional fitting unsafe. Use pain medicine only as directed on an Australian label, and never place aspirin directly on the gum.

What the dentist will do at the visit

At the appointment, the dentist will check the tooth for decay, cracks, movement and pressure from your bite. X-rays may be needed if there was trauma or the crown was very loose. They will also confirm whether the tooth is strong enough to support another temporary or the planned final crown.

If the crown is intact and still fits, it may be cleaned and re-cemented. A crown that is distorted, cracked or no longer seats properly should not be forced onto the tooth. The dentist may take a new impression and arrange a replacement temporary restoration.

If another practice placed it, contact that practice because it may hold the tooth dimensions and cement details. If your notes identify Dr Cetin Clinic as the provider, confirm the case directly and share the crown and your treatment history before attending elsewhere.

Australian costs, cover and pharmacy advice

Medicare generally does not rebate routine adult crowns, cosmetic restorations or the replacement of a lost temporary crown. Public dental services mainly support eligible children and certain vulnerable groups, so an adult needing restorative care in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or another Australian city may need a private dentist.

Private health policies vary: check your waiting period, annual limits, exclusions and whether your insurer requires itemised costs. Ask the dentist for a written estimate covering assessment, replacement provisional and final crown. Paying promptly by instalment may reduce stress, but cost should not become the reason to leave the tooth exposed.

For discomfort, a pharmacist can help choose between paracetamol and ibuprofen when suitable. Follow the Australian packet directions, avoid duplicate products and check with a clinician if you take regular medicines, have kidney disease, an ulcer or take blood thinners. A GP can provide triage but cannot assess the crown’s fit.

After-hours dental practices in major Australian cities usually triage by phone and may charge an assessment fee outside normal hours. Call before travelling, describe the problem and ask about imaging, pain relief, same-day re-cementing and the likely total cost. Keep receipts and your insurer’s claim details.

If you are away from your regular dentist

If you are in Australia away from your regular dentist, seek a nearby dental practice with same-day appointments and bring any records, photos and the crown. Do not delay until your next holiday; temporary cement and exposed tooth structure can deteriorate faster than people expect.

If you are in Izmir, the placing clinic may already have your measurements and final-restoration plan. TruDent’s dental consultation in Izmir page can be used to confirm the practical next step, while a local dentist may be able to stabilise the tooth. Istanbul is roughly five to eight hours behind several Australian cities, depending on daylight saving, so arrange communication carefully.

Australian travel insurance often excludes elective dental treatment, major restorative work or conditions linked to treatment already planned. Seek emergency stabilisation first, then ask the insurer in writing about cover and retain clinical notes and receipts. Keep copies of reports because treatment abroad may require follow-up once you return home.

Contact TruDent promptly for aftercare

When contacting TruDent, state the tooth involved, the date the temporary crown was fitted, when it loosened, and whether it came out whole. Describe pain, swelling, gum injury and whether biting feels different. A short sequence of clear photographs can help the dentist decide whether an in-person review is needed.

Patients comparing dental treatment abroad may also read patient feedback, while treating online reviews as personal experiences rather than guarantees. Confirm credentials, the proposed material, appointment timing and emergency costs directly with the clinic before travelling for the final placement.

Contact TruDent promptly for a personalised aftercare assessment and ask whether the crown can be recovered and re-cemented safely. If the tooth came out while you are in Izmir, keep the crown protected, avoid chewing on it and arrange the earliest available dental visit rather than waiting for your planned final appointment.
