Transparent Plaque Treatment

In addition to correcting gaps or crowding in the teeth, orthodontic methods applied to treat incorrect jaw bite are diversifying with new technologies. Transparent aligner treatment (orthodontic treatment without braces), which is used as an alternative to traditional braces, stands out among innovative approaches. With this treatment method, it is possible to achieve a smooth appearance of the teeth without the need for uncomfortable braces, thanks to the transparent aligners prepared individually.

What is Clear Aligner Treatment?

A clear aligner is an alternative to braces for suitable patients, used to move teeth into the correct position when they are not lined up properly and are crooked. This treatment is preferred because it is almost unnoticeable in the mouth and can be easily removed and reinserted before eating. Usually, clear aligners are used to treat mild or moderate crookedness or small gaps in the teeth. However, patients with severe crookedness, large gaps or crossbite problems require more complex methods and appliances.

Transparent Plaque Treatment Stages

After the patient's X-rays, measurements with an intraoral scanner, intra- and extraoral photographs are taken, a treatment plan is created in a digital environment and a digital simulation is made according to this plan. This simulation determines how many aligners will be used. After the approval of the orthodontist, the aligners are produced in a laboratory abroad. All the aligners to be used throughout the treatment are sent to the clinic in bulk. In the first session, a 'template plate' is used and bonded on the teeth in harmony with the tooth color. If necessary, abrasions are made between the teeth and the first two aligners are delivered to the patient. The patient is explained how to wear and clean the aligners. The patient is asked to wear each aligner for 15 days and a follow-up appointment is scheduled after one month.

How is Invisalign Treatment Applied?

Invisalign treatment is initiated with a comprehensive examination. As a result of the examinations, the orthodontist evaluates whether the patient is suitable for orthodontic treatment without braces.

  • If the patient is found suitable, the necessary treatments for oral health (scaling, decay treatment, etc.) are first performed.
  • After this preparation phase is completed, the patient's jaw and teeth measurements are taken with a 3D scanner.
  • These measurements are transmitted to the clear aligner production center.
  • The weekly movement plan of the teeth is organized by the specialist orthodontist.
  • After the patient and the doctor agree on how the teeth will look after the treatment, the plaque production starts.
  • The aligners, which are produced individually using 3D printers, are delivered to the clinic within a week at the latest.
  • The first transparent aligner is fitted to the patient by the orthodontist.
  • The patient may feel a slight pressure when wearing the aligners for the first time, but this sensation is short-lived.
  • It is natural to have a small discrepancy between the first aligner and the current tooth position.
  • There are two separate clear aligners for the upper and lower jaw and both aligners should be used at the same time.
  • The orthodontist determines how often the aligners should be changed and how long they should be used.

How long does clear aligner treatment last?

For the first 6 months after the end of treatment, the aligners must be worn continuously, that is, day and night. When you want to eat something, you should remove the aligners and put them back in immediately afterwards. Although it depends on the case, we generally recommend this for 6 months. In some cases, it is recommended to wear the aligners all day for 1 year after treatment is completed. After this period, nighttime use should be continued for at least another 1 year.
