Congratulations!
You have just had your teeth whitened and the information below will help you keep your smile white and dazzling! The first 48 hours are crucial to maximizing the results of your whitening treatment.
Some patients have sensitivity following whitening. This sensitivity usually lasts for 48 to 72 hours after bleaching. However, it is not uncommon for the sensitivity to last for up to a week or so. We recommend over-the-counter pain relief for any discomfort you experience. Avoid drinking acidic fruit juices, such as orange juice, until the sensitivity has gone away.
If you are experiencing sensitivity, Sensodyne toothpaste is recommended for brushing.
Chewing sugarless gum is helpful as it reduces peroxide levels and helps with sensitivity.
DO NOT consume dark or yellow staining substances such as:
- Coffee
- Black tea
- Mustard
- Ketchup
- Red wine
- Dark soft drinks
- Red Sauces
- Soy sauce
- Tobacco products
Regular home care includes chlorhexidine mouthwash, please wait 48 hours before continuing.
Continue good oral hygiene after your whitening treatment, this will help you maintain the new color.
Whitened teeth will always be lighter than before they were whitened. How long it lasts is variable and depends largely on how you're used to wearing it. If you notice a darkening of your teeth, you may have to have your teeth whitened at home. We can make custom bleaching trays for you to take home. Please contact us for more information if you are interested. Please call us if you have any other queries.
